Hobby Adventures: Instruments and Writing✨

Welcome back to another week of my hobby adventures! The past 2 weeks I took you all on my nail art adventures, this week I’ll be sharing my adventures with playing instruments and writing.

Throughout elementary and middle school I played a few instruments. Recorder, cello, bass, violin, with violin being my favorite to name a few. I played the violin quite well in middle school. We went to competitions, and I even participated in an audition in my orchestra class for first chair (the violinist that plays in the front and leads/starts performances. Sometimes has small solos) and guess who got that chair?

Yes, I did!

Our teacher sent us all to the back in her office, and made us close the door so no one could see who was playing or show favoritism. Everyone was able to judge with their ears.

You’d think as shy and introverted as I am I wouldn’t want to be first chair but I loved the orchestra so much and I knew that I was good at playing the violin. It made me feel good. We had orchestra, chorus and band, as most schools do I believe. Around the holidays or other school events we would have concerts during and after school for our parents/guardians to come see. Sometimes all 3 groups would join together for one massive performance. I remember one specific concert for Christmas the chorus sang Silent Night while the orchestra and band played along. I remember another time in elementary for the talent show we had to perform. I was also a cheerleader, the cheerleading team had to perform, and I was one of the talent show hosts for half of the show. Good times. Good times. Auditioning for host was actually a wonderful experience even though it was just a little in school thing. Thinking of doing it today gives me anxiety lol. But that’s all another story.

Going to music class was my favorite part of the school day each year until moving onto high school. My high school didn’t have a good orchestra program, and I was embarrassed to even join. I think it would have been the same if the program was bigger and more popular. This is one of those hobbies I wish I would have kept up with. I can only imagine how much improvement there could have been by now.

Two instruments I would love to play are the piano and guitar. My daddy played the piano for a little while when he was in school. I don’t think he’s into it or remembers much now. I know I can barely remember how to play a violin or read sheet music.

In 2015 I started writing a book (more like an urban story that was full of drama and all over the place, it also rhymed a little) the story was getting a lot of attention and love on Facebook and Wattpad. This was at a time where short stories (mainly urban) on Facebook was popular. I eventually talked to an author/publisher. But I got scared, is why I didn’t go through with everything. I realized I wasn’t really ready for all of the attention I was beginning to receive.

If I didn’t post the next chapter quickly enough soo many people would be commenting and inboxing asking questions and it just became overwhelming. I felt rushed but I can say that I learned a few things from the experience. One thing being to have the whole story complete before sharing parts every so often because if you get stuck one week you’re going to have to push back and all of your readers might not be as patient. Another thing being you definitely have to be ready for that kind of attention. Sometimes you can think you’re ready for it and you’re just not. The same can apply to blogging.

I did finish the draft of the story, I just never edited it for an actual book. I didn’t plan to have the book rhyme. I also wanted to begin a sequel type, which I did. But again, that never got finished. I’ve thought about posting it here or the Wattpad link but I look back on the story not being so proud of it because I don’t see myself being the same girl who wrote it. And I definitely wouldn’t write that story today. Who knows, maybe one day I won’t care as much and say hey have a look.

I’m more focused on starting over and trying again. I am currently in the process of that with my poetry book I have been working on. I can’t wait until it’s complete and I can share it! This is a goal that’s on the top of my list so I am determined.✨

I hope you enjoyed this week of my hobby adventures. Have you played any instruments? Have you written any books or short stories? I’d love to know.💖

Anti-Valentines Day Playlist🚫❤️

Valentines Day is approaching and I know that there are some people out there that absolutely hate it for different reasons. Maybe they hate seeing all the cheesy couple photos in red and pink, or maybe they’ve just become single before the holiday. Whatever the reason, I’ve put together a list of songs for the occasion.

What’s Up Wednesday???

What’s Up Wednesday?

Thank you for stopping by my blog again, today I thought I would do a small update with What’s Up Wednesday. I know I have been inconsistent and all over the place lately but I’m trying really hard the best I can to get back on track. When life hits you hard, you really have to be strong to get back up and fight back and work through things. That is what I am doing.

What we’re eating this week:

I’ve still been working on eating healthier and finding alternatives to some of the foods I’m trying to cut out such as burgers. Recently we picked up some veggie burgers, I first tried the Boca brand and I was pretty impressed. I’ll definitely get them again. And actually, I’ll be talking about them more, along with some other brands in a future post.

What I’m reminiscing about:

When I was a little more consistent in the blog community, when I was happier, spending time with friends and family. As of now I just feel lost.

What I’m loving:

I’m loving new music from Jhene Aiko. I’m loving the poems I have been working on. I’m loving kind people in this world. The world is a mess right now.

What we’ve been up to:

Well, I personally have just been working on myself physically and mentally. Spending less time online, healing, building a better relationship with God, and working on my current relationships with family to start. Trying at least.

What I’m dreading:

Something that I don’t want to talk too much into right now but basically, my boyfriend and I are really struggling and are close to no longer having a place to stay. Life is rough and really stressful at the moment but I’m going to keep pushing and fighting through these times.

What I’m working on:

As I mentioned above, I have been working more on myself. But I’m also working on posts for both GoldenPinkJournal and SheLivesLove and a few other things that I will share later on.

What I’m excited about:

Getting back into the community, enjoying what I love to do again and just finding myself again because I know this storm will be over eventually.

What I’m watching/reading:

I recently picked up some new books but I haven’t started to read them yet. I’m currently watching ’90s house as I type. I thought I would check the show out, and it’s pretty cool and interesting so far but there have been a few cringe moments. Have any of you watched it?

What I’m listening to:

I have been listening to Jhene Aiko’s new album Trip. She made an album, a short film/movie, and poetry book. I really enjoyed the film. I’m also going to check out Demi Lovato’s new album.

What I’m wearing:

T-shirt and leggings, nothing special.

What I’m doing this weekend:

It will be wash day for my hair. Hopefully, this time goes much better than the last. I haven’t made any plans for the weekend so it’ll just be a surprise. If anything I’ll still be working on catching up with things.

What I’m looking forward to the next month:

Getting out of this funk is really my main priority. Also, I am close to 900 followers here on GoldenPinkJournal, that’s pretty cool. Hello to my new followers!💖

What else is new:

I recently made my 200th post here which was exciting. There are a few things that I’ll talk about on a later date. I want to keep you all updated on things without putting my whole life out there, and without having too many sad depressing posts. I will be posting today, tomorrow, Friday, and possibly once this weekend. I also will be reading your posts and comments.

How has life been treating you lately? Good or bad I’d love to know. I look forward to catching up with you all.💖

Inspiration of the day✨

Everything takes time

You have gotta lose your pride

You have gotta lose your mind

Just to find your peace of mind

You have got to trust the signs

Everything will turn out fine

So ✨why aren’t you smiling?✨

Today’s inspiration comes from another song. This one is by Jhené Aiko, who happens to be one of my favorite female singers. Her music has inspired me in so many ways. I could name PLENTY of her songs that will mean something to you, yet it’s sad that she’s most known for the line “gotta eat the booty like groceries.” (Cringe)

This particular song, W.A.Y.S, I listen to any time I’m really feeling down and it always helps me get through whatever the situation is.

You may be going through a difficult time right now but know that in the end everything will be fine. All of what you’re going through serves a purpose- to teach you, help you mature and grow wiser, and to know yourself better. So smile through the good and the bad, and keep on going! Don’t let anything stop you or take your happiness away.

Inspiration of the day✨

Today’s inspiration comes from a song I fell in love with, by a woman named Anhayla. The song is titled U.G.L.Y.

If you’ve ever felt insecure or maybe you still do, if you’ve ever looked in the mirror and felt you weren’t good or pretty enough- This song is for YOU.

I know we’ve all dealt with insecurities at some point in our lives. We’re human.

But in order for anyone else to love and accept you for who you are, you have to love and accept yourself first. That’s when you respect yourself and know your worth. If you feel like/tell yourself you’re not good enough, you’ll act like you’re not good enough, you’ll be hurt and accept when someone else says those very things you already tell yourself. Remember we all have flaws. The mirror can be one of your worst enemies if you let it. So can television, social media, and magazines.

Be true to yourself, and love yourself for who you were meant to be in this world. There is no one else exactly like you, embrace it.💖

Don’t hate or change it.

The Dreaded Sex Talk: Some parents take it too far

Children are exposed to sex in some form more and more each day. Whether it be other family members, friends at school, or music and television, it’s everywhere. Naturally, parents want to be able to control how much their children are being exposed to and stop them from doing what everyone else is doing.

Growing up with only one parent present, that being my father, he had no choice but to be the one to give me…The dreaded sex talk. I can’t remember the first time he brought it up, I do remember him bringing it up quite often but when he found out I had a boyfriend in 10th grade was when it really began. It initially started with him telling me that I don’t have a boyfriend I need to break up with him immediately. This to me was unfair so I wasn’t willing to and I didn’t. That’s when I began to become more distant, sneaky and he soon realized he couldn’t keep me away from this boy so he started talking more. Now I don’t know how the talk went for you all, but my dad always made things very awkward. We could be in the car on our way to Walmart and out of nowhere he’d ask “Are you having sex yet?” Of course I always said no and for a while that was true but I just didn’t feel comfortable talking with him about that. He even went as far as asking if I, like other young girls liked “putting my mouth on it.” At that point I realized that was a conversation I never wanted to have with him or anyone else. Not even my sisters when he asked them to ask me if I was sexually active, and to give me the talk since I wouldn’t talk to him. Maybe it was just the way he approached it, or maybe it was just the fact that he’s my father. I would have rather had my mother have that talk with me.

I’m now 23 years old and sometimes he STILL finds a way to bring it up. Asking if i’m using protection, if i’m on birth control, and constantly telling me how men are as if I don’t already know by now. Eventually I did tell my sister I was no longer a virgin, after her asking again. I was relived that she didn’t judge me, had nothing negative to say, and spoke to me in a way that was more comfortable to me than my father. However, I still didn’t prefer talking to family about sex at all. If I was ever curious about anything I would go to google which can be misleading at times, but I would also talk to my close friends. Most of my friends were sexually active and would tell me about it anyway, I was actually one of the last to have that experience so it was a lot more natural for me to go to them. There’s also something about a strong friendship that’s a lot more comforting than any one else.

I don’t believe parents should stop talking to their children about sex because at the end of the day they care the most and are going to be the ones to give the best advice but, they should instead get to know their children more to find out the best way for that individual child. Everyone is different, what made me feel uncomfortable may not have made one of my sisters or someone else uncomfortable. Some people are just more open than others and nothing is wrong with that. You shouldn’t be upset or disappointed if your child doesn’t feel comfortable talking about something as personal as sex, just let them know they when they are ready and if they do get curious they can come talk to you at any time. It’s okay to tell them to be careful because there are STD’s, it’s okay to inform them about pregnancy but don’t be a pest. You don’t want your child to be resentful or rebellious which happens far too often, not just about sex. In my opinion, it’s going too far to constantly ask anyone personal questions. Ask or attempt to have the conversation a few times, after that leave it to the child to decide if he/she wants to discuss things more. Especially if they are old enough to make their own decisions and learn from their mistakes on their own, you can’t protect them from everything.

I often run polls on my Twitter account. Many to go with my blog, sometimes just for fun. On Monday, to go along with this particular blog topic, I Tweeted a poll (above picture) asking how many people were comfortable having “the talk” with their parents. My goal was to have at least 100 votes but that’s okay, the post received 67 votes. Of the 67 voters I can’t say how many were male or female, or their ages. My followers ages range from teenagers to young adults under the age of 30. As you see from the final results, 33% of voters said that they were comfortable talking with their parents about sex while a larger 67% said they wouldn’t be.

If you’re a parent, how did you go about having the talk with your child? Was it difficult? Were they open about it? If you’re not a parent how would you go about having the talk? Or how was it when your parents had the talk with you?

Until next time, love Lee.
