Why I Went Self-hosted🌸💖

During the past few months, I have been experiencing lots of hard times in my life, and my blog. I wasn’t happy with the way things were going, every obstacle that kept placing itself in my way. I wasn’t happy with the way I was blogging or even my name. I found myself trying to post every day because I wanted to gain a following and be consistent. You can be consistent and gain loyal followers without posting every day. Without posting everything you think your readers will like. You have to like it too or you just won’t commit. It came to the point where I was questioning if I was good enough to continue blogging. I wondered if I had made a mistake and would have to tell family members that they were right, I should chase more “realistic dreams and goals” like going to college for nursing. All of this came down to a few simple things.

Not only did I not like the name much (GoldenPinkJournal) but I also didn’t like seeing the WordPress.com at the end. This makes my already long name even longer and I wanted something that I could really call my own. I had too many categories and too many pictures with not a lot of space. I also didn’t like the theme and customization limits. None of this motivated me to want to continue unless I made some type of change.

I decided the change I needed was simply just to start fresh with the new knowledge I have. So far, I feel like this was best for me.

Reasons I wanted a new name:

It just sounds like a gold and pink journal

– GoldenPinkJournal doesn’t give the reader a real idea of what the blog/website will be about

– I asked myself if I was just someone scrolling through Google would the name GoldenPinkJournal catch my interest. My answer? Probably not, maybe.

– I only spent a few hours thinking about it

– Too long for my liking

– Made me not want to blog as much anymore

sheliveslove.com was born! I’ll be talking more about this name later.

I actually didn’t think I would be going self-hosted this soon. It was something I wanted to do at a later time, or “the right time.” Something I didn’t think I had the money for at the moment. After looking into it, you’ll find that it’s really not that expensive to start for a year or 2. Now, it won’t be a $20-50 purchase, but it also won’t be thousands of dollars either. If blogging is only something you’re doing for hobby and you don’t see yourself doing it for years to come you really don’t need to worry about purchasing anything.

If you are serious about blogging and want to do it full-time some day, or maybe earn a decent amount someday you should definitely consider investing in yourself and your blog. The extra benefits are worth it in my opinion! Think of it this way, how much junk food do you buy/eat in a year? How many times do you go out for entertainment (movies, shopping, club, traveling etc) and how much do you spend on it? If you can spend hundreds of dollars buying things that aren’t the best for your health or just to have a good time/experience you should be able to spend that same amount or more to invest in yourself.

I am lucky enough to have an amazing boyfriend who wanted to surprise me this month for our 2 year anniversary, which is why this happened so much sooner than I thought. I had 3 special surprises for our anniversary❤️

1. A delivery of flowers: I didn’t get this best picture of this and I was too excited and lazy to move papers off of the table, so I added heart emoji’s to cover them lol. I also wish I could have recorded the moment. This was my first time receiving delivered flowers at my door. The delivery man even looked like he enjoyed his job so that’s a plus lol. I have been taking several pictures with the flowers.

2. I was taken to watch the sunset with a better view: If you follow me on Instagram, my ARoseInReverie account, you’ve already seen this. I just didn’t give the story behind it. My boyfriend and I went grocery shopping and afterward, he told me he was taking me somewhere to watch the sunset with a better view. He also said there’s another park he want’s to take me to that gives an even better view than this! I can’t wait!

3. And putting money towards my self-hosted blog. If you’re with someone that will invest in your dreams, that’s an amazing feeling. This is my dream, not his. He doesn’t care about blogging and he isn’t a fan of reading or writing but he wants to read my blog, he wants me to be and do what makes me happy. We don’t have a perfect relationship, no relationship is perfect but we help each other, love each other, and make it work at the end of the day💕

August has been pretty good to me, I’m hoping it only continues into these next few months. Thank you all so much for your wonderful comments!

Fun Friday #18: 20 Names I Love But Won’t Be Using!💖💙

Happy Fun Friday!

Yesterday I took a look at my very first Fun Friday post, which was name’s I love but wouldn’t use. I shared that list back in March and I’ve added so many names since then! I’m obsessed honestly, I have about 70 written down.

For today’s post I decided to do an updated version sharing 10 girl names and 10 boy names that I love but probably wouldn’t use as my future child’s name. The name “Mireya” was in my last list but I’ve actually grown to really like it, mainly for a middle name but I’d definitely consider using it now. Many of the names on my list sound similar or have an A beginning/end because those are the type of names I prefer. They are still very different. I’ve also added a few of their meanings:)

Here is my updated list:
GIRLS💖

Analise– Honestly, I adore this name but the main reason I wouldn’t use it is because the first 4 letters spell… Anal. Now, I don’t know if my mind is just in the gutter but I don’t want the first few letters of my child’s name to spell Anal. I think she would hate it, and I feel like some people would point it out and make fun of it. If I ever use this name I would spell it “Aunalise” Auna for short. MEANING: Grace or devoted to God.*I also like Aunalia.

Alara– I really like the sound of this name but couldn’t see myself using it. MEANING: One who brings brightness and happiness to the soul, to the heart.

Indya– This is one of the names I thought I would someday name my daughter. Spelled India or Indya but now I see it as too common. I’m also not really interested in country/continent names anymore like India and Asia.

Yara– I got this name from the beautiful actress and model Yara Shahidi. I just couldn’t see this as my daughters name. MEANING: On Nameberry, the meaning is “small butterfly”
YaraS.jpg

Melody/Harmony– I’m using these 2 as 1 because they are both musical names, beautiful musical names I must add. I wouldn’t completely knock them, If I had twin girls I would probably consider these names. Maybe they would be blessed with great singing voices? That would be lovely. But with me being picky again, I have to point out “Harm” being the first 4 letters of Harmony lol.

Lilia/Lylia– Like Lily, this sounds so pretty but even better in my opinion. Again, this is just a name I couldn’t see my own daughter having.

Amberlee/Amberly– I started to like this name when I was in middle school or early high school days. It has a really pretty sound but the “Amber” is too common for me. MEANING: A jewel-quality fossilized resin; as a color the name refers to a warm honey shade.

Zuri– I first heard this name on Disney Channel on the show Jesse as Skai Jackson’s character and thought it was so beautiful! I only wouldn’t use this name because I’m not a fan of “Z” names for my own children. Guess what the meaning is??? MEANING: Beautiful

Hazel Won’t be using this name because it’s what I named one of my guinea pigs lol. Also because it’s a color. It’s also a type of tree and nut.

Aliza– I really love this name and the only reason I wouldn’t choose it is because I already know someone who named her daughter that. MEANING: Joy, joyful

BOYS💙

For the boy names most of these I wouldn’t choose only because there are other names I like better, or I couldn’t see myself using them.

Luca- I like how nice and short this name is, I just wouldn’t choose it for my son. MEANING: Bringer of light, Man from Lucania

Jeremiah– I like the sounding of Jeremiah, it’s just not for me.

Messiah– I love how powerful this name sounds. Probably because it’s pretty biblical. This name might be too much pressure though. MEANING: Annointed one

Eric– Another nice sounding short name. But this name is too common and also my ex’s name so that would be weird. MEANING: Eternal ruler

Tristan– I’m actually still on the fence about this name. Maybe I would use it, Maybe not. Who knows. I just know that I like it. As for the meaning, I saw several different meanings such as, a knight, tumult; outcry, bold, the loud one, lol… So I’m really not sure.

Antonio– This name probably isn’t as popular as it once was but it’s still kind of popular to me so I wouldn’t use it. Otherwise I really like it and would definitely consider it. MEANING: Worthy of praise; of value

Hendrix– I wouldn’t use this name for my son, it’s mainly a surname but I think it sounds really cool.

Malachi/Malakai– I’m not really a fan of M names for boys which is why I wouldn’t choose this name. It also sounds more like a pet name for a dog in my opinion. MEANING: My messenger/my angel

Kavan/Cavan– I just recently came across this name. I would probably use it for a middle name actually. MEANING: Handsome

Jahlil– Ever since I came across this name I’ve liked it. I only wouldn’t use it because I like other names better. But this could still very much be a possibility. I’m including it anyway:) MEANING: Great, Revered, Grand, Noble, Servant of the Majestic

That’s it! 20 names!
Do you like any of the names on my list? What is 1 girl and 1 boy name that would be on your list? Comment below.✨

Fun Friday #17: There’s ANOTHER site like Canva?!☺️

Happy Fun Friday everyone!

As promised, I will be sharing another editing app with you all. Don’t forget that there will be another one tomorrow too, so if you’re someone interested in making your social media sites or pictures more aesthetically pleasing continue reading and come back tomorrow to check them out!

Lately I’ve been finding several apps similar to Canva. While Canva still seems to be the best in my opinion, the other apps and editing sites I’ve found are pretty great too. The site that I’ll be sharing today, FotoJet comes the closest so far (of the ones I’ve tried) so I’m putting it in 2nd place right behind Canva.

The sites description: FotoJet is a great online graphic designer, collage maker & photo editor that will enable you to create amazing social media graphics, posters, flyers, banners, cards, collages, and also help you to edit photos without hassles.

Here is one of the “Magazine Covers” I created using FotoJet, and Laura’s pictures from Lauzie’s Lifestyle

LauraMag

Now let’s take a closer look behind the scenes as I edit another!

Screenshot (30)

You have the option to create a design, make a collage, or edit a photo. For this I’ll just be using create a design. There are so many templates to choose from, but some are only for the premium version. The free version still has some really nice ones. I’ll be using “Magazine Cover”

Screenshot (33)

Here is just a look at some of the collage choices:Screenshot (34)Now back to magazine covers…
You’ll notice a scroll bar on the left side with all of the magazine templates. I’ve chosen this Honey template.

Screenshot (35)

Now I’m going to change the text from Honey to LauziesLifestyle using the Homemade Apple font which is my favorite. I also want to change the picture! But I’ll be adding 3 pictures instead of just 1.

Screenshot (38)

Screenshot (39)You can also change the background colors if you want. You can choose single colors, make gradient colors, or use one of the cute patterns they have. I chose to leave the background as is. I did use a gradient I created in the first magazine cover of Laura.

Screenshot (40)

When you are ready to save your image, you can rename it, and choose the format either JPG or PNG. I kept it as JPG. I also kept the size the same.

I hope you all enjoyed checking this site out with me! Have any of you used FotoJet before? Let me know in the comments if you have or will be giving it a try. Thanks for stopping by.

Interviewing A Lovely Blogger✨

If you can not view photos in reader on the app, please try from your browser.

Happy almost Friday:)

Today I am back with another interesting interview with a lovely blogger. Laura from Lauzie’s Lifestyle. I will say that behind the scenes of this interview was full of struggles for Laura and I. Pictures weren’t attaching, I was already late sending in the questions but my notifications for her responses were also delayed. Still we managed to get it done and I just love how detailed Laura’s answers are. These kind of interviews are the best in my opinion, where you can clearly tell that the person interviewed is fully engaged. This also shows a great side of personality. I’ve grown to love doing these interviews over the past few weeks so this definitely will not be the last I do. Just the last for this series:)

Let’s get to it! Laura’s answers are in Italics.

  1. If you could have your own modeling agency right now, what would you name it? Lauzies Lifestyle of course!
  2. If you had to, would you rather wear yellow or green lipstick for a month straight? Definitely yellow. I always loved when Jennifer Lopez wore that yellow lipstick in her video for ‘Live it up’. I think it would suit my skin tone more and green reminds me of a witch or something – no offense to the colour!
  3. Would you do a photo shoot with 50 snakes surrounding you (non poisonous) for $50,000? If they were non-poisonous, I would happily pose with them.
  4. Can you name 5 public figures that inspire you?
    1. Jennifer Lopez. I mention her a fair amount on my blog. She was really my childhood inspiration.
    2. I do not know if this will count, but I could mention many Old Hollywood stars – specifically Lauren Bacall.
    3.  Mary-Kate and Ashley. I love that they stay true to themselves and do not seek out fame. They are very original.
    4. Lisa Eldridge. I have always admired her makeup work and how she launched her career. I believe she started by working in retail at Harrods.
5.SJP  (Sarah Jessica Parker). She grew up in a very poor household and went on to become a global style icon. Again, I admire her originality. I will also mention the late Aaliyah. She had such a unique look and didn’t give in to pressure to dress a certain way. I think for girls that do not fit the ideal current shape, they can really look to her as someone who was sexy regardless of her ‘curves.
  5. Do you have any modeling advice you can give? Anything you’ve learned or any tips. I am very new to the world of modelling. I suppose one thing that I realized was that signing to an agency – however credible, does not guarantee work. I know of a model who signed to the one of the biggest agencies in the world and she ended up leaving because all they ever did, was send her to free castings for test shoots. You have to treat it like a business because people will always try to take advantage. You have to have really thick skin and be prepared for people not to like your look. For general modelling tips, practice in front of a mirror and try to recreate modelling poses you see in the magazines, to figure out  what comes natural to you. This is some great advice! Can’t you all agree?
  6. What is the healthiest meal you’ve eaten this week? This week has not been my healthiest. I did have a stir-fry though. It was flavoured tofu, noodles with lots of herbs and sesame oil, roasted broccoli and butter beans.
  7. Is there a photo shoot you’ve done that you was more nervous about than any other?  I was really nervous about shooting video. A cinematographer asked me to be involved with his latest project and it was completely different to photographic modelling. I had to continually move, try and look relaxed whilst also conveying a character. I will be posting a snippet of it today as an Instagram throwback.
  8. If your blogs name couldn’t be Lauzieslifestyle, what might it be instead?
I have thought about this before and I have never been able to conjure up an alternative. Lauz and Lauzie (law-zee) is a nickname of mine and I have always loved how the term sounds next to lifestyle – which is really the main focus of my blog. Lauzie is a pretty cute nick name:)
  9. Is there anything you want to do in the future that others might think is crazy?
I am a huge dreamer and I live with the mindset that the sky is my limit. This alone, makes people think that I am crazy. I have big dreams to be a successful writer and business woman. I plan to learn as much as possible about things that inspire me. I don’t believing in labeling myself into one box and this shows with my career changes.
I can relate to this answer so much!
  10. What are the last 5 words to an inspiring poem of your choice?
I am actually going to use one of my own poems. The last 5 words are “and now my life begins”. The poem is personal and details a bad relationship where I suddenly realised that this person is no longer worth it and that it is time to move on.
“No more wasting good times on bad people, pray for me as I fly high like an eagle, I wish you well, and now my life begins”. Wow, perfect choice! I love this.
  11. What would you say are the top 5 items needed for a simple every day makeup routine? Assuming that skincare does not count – I would say a base product (foundation, concealer etc), eyebrow product, bronzer, mascara and lipstick. These are the products that I generally use and one’s that I would always apply on a client.
  12. Finish this random sentence: Because of ___ I will never wear ___ again:
Because of old photographs, I will never wear a denim skirt again. Unless they somehow make a fashion comeback, I will stick to denim shorts. Aha, I’ve seen some cute ones but not many. I guess some people just know how to rock it very well. I’ve never worn a denim skirt.
  13. Can you attach a picture that describes your exact mood right now?
    20170803_180432
The mood is happiness and contentment. This picture is really pretty Laura! The words health and peace came to me.
  14. If you could choose 1 person to work out with, 1 person to do a modeling shoot with, and 1 famous writer to spend a full day with, who would they be and why?
To workout with, I would choose Shaun T who is a popular trainer and is known for his fitness programs such as Insanity. As hard as they are, working out with him would ensure the best workout possible. To do a modelling shoot with, I would choose someone like Giselle. She would make me feel insecure, but I feel that I could learn a lot. For writing, I would say an interviewer like Diane Sawyer. Someone who met a variety of people. OMG I remember Shaun T commercials Lol! That man be working out FOR REAL!
  15. Attach a photo of the 5th photo in your camera roll, a photo of a healthy meal you’ve eaten, and a photo of something you’ve written, could be part of a poem or whatever you wish to write, or anything you’ve done before.
    20170731_064302
    AWWWW so cute!!

The meal is a stew of lentils, quinoa and Bulgar wheat, carrots, chopped tomato, spinach, harissa, lots of herbs and seasoning – paprika, cumin, mixed herbs, coriander and a handful of cheese.
    Screenshot_20170803-221252Screenshot_20170803-222426

You’re a great writer. Your writings always take me to a deep place, mainly an inspiring place, making me think about things in my own life. I especially love your poems. I’ll be enjoying reading and being inspired by more of your work!

I hope you all enjoyed this interview and maybe even learned something from it. If you’re not already following Laura’s blog, go over and check her out! The link is posted right in the beginning:) Also, check out her Instagram while you’re at it.💙

An Interesting Interview☺️

Hey everyone! I am back to share another interesting interview with you all. I had the opportunity to interview 5 bloggers (on #4 now) and this week I interviewed Dakota from Essential Living With Dakota. This whole week was dedicated to her blog.
I have just one more blogger to feature next week, and then I’ll be beginning my new journey, I’m so excited yet nervous at the same time.

But enough of that, we’ll talk more about that later. Let’s get right to the interview. Dakota’s answers are in italics.

    1. What is your favorite thing about having only boys? The connection. They say little boys fall in love with their mama, and there’s no better feeling than when they think I’m Super Woman. Wow! That must be an amazing feeling.
    2. What is the toughest thing about having 3 boys? Exhaustion and I don’t have a clue what I’m doing. lol. They never sit still. We’re constantly on the move. Mentally/emotionally, I have a hard time keeping up with them because they do a lot of crap where I’m like “wtf!? Is this a boy thing or a kid thing!?” LOL! I can only imagine!
    3. If you had 3 daughters, what would you name them? This one is tough. My husband and I have had the same girl name for 7 years. Hannah. 💜otherwise, I have no idea. Obviously my subconscious wants boys. but I like Avery and Rowan, too! Avery is such a pretty name, my very first best friend actually had that name.
    4. What are 3 boy names you like other than your sons names? Logan, Clayton, Landon.
    5. If you had to choose a different name for your blog, what would it be? Honestly, I have no idea. When I decided a blog was what I was going to do, Essential Living with Dakota was all that came to mind and I never looked back.
    6. If you had to create a new oil right this minute, what would be the first ingredient you’d grab? Frankincense! It’s the bomb dot com!
    7. What is your least favorite scent? In general, I don’t like floral scents. I’m more of a woodsy, citrusy, subtle chick.
    8. If you could combine 2 scents into one, which 2 would they be? Peppermint and Lemon! Bright, fresh, energizing! Peppermint and Lemon actually sounds very refreshing, I’d love to try that scent combo.
    9. If you had to choose between changing diapers every 5 minutes (literally) or putting a crying baby to sleep every 5 minutes for a whole day, which would you choose? Diapers. My mama heart aches with a screaming baby and I’ve had my fair share of crying every five minute days over the years.
    10. Finish this random sentence: “When my kids ____ I ____.” When my kids all play together, nicely, I thank God for a moment of sanity. Seriously guys, these kids are like velcro. I’m so thankful they want me to be a part of every little thing they do, but I’m so so thankful when they explore and use their imaginations together and let me pee in peace. 😂
    11. I saw that you recently had a girls night out. What is your ideal girls night? Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever had a girl’s night in the 6.5 years of mommin’. I’ve always felt guilty for leaving my kids. But that’s part of my promise to myself, that in order to be happy and healthy, I need to take some me time. All that to say – my ideal girls night would probably be grabbing my sister and going to get our nails done, grabbing dinner and a few drinks together. We rarely have time to catch up anymore. ❤
    12. If you had to choose one of these pets for your boys, which would you choose? A hedgehog, an iguana, or a chinchilla? Uhh, none? Lol. We don’t have pets. I’m not a pet person. But Maybe one day the boys will talk me into it, so for the sake of playing a long – hedgehog!
    13. What is the funniest moment you can remember with your husband? Oh man, I don’t know that I can pick just one. This guy keeps me laughing. I’m so blessed to have him walk this life with me. One particular moment doesn’t stand out for me, I just get the warm fuzzies and recall lots of laughter.
    14. What day of the month did you get married on? (Only the number) and give 1 hint about what month it is. 17. Warm! Hmmm, can any of you guess which month it is???
    15. Can you draw a football, a bottle of oil, and a strawberry? (I picked items relating to boys, your Instagram, and blog) The drawings don’t have to be perfect, this is for fun. Be sure to take a picture of your drawings and attach. strawberry😂 clearly I am no artist!

Lol I’m thinking my own drawings would look very similar.

I hope you all enjoyed reading Dakota’s answers. Do any of you have a son? Can you relate to any of Dakota’s answers? Comment below.✨

Fun Friday #16: Exploring A New App☺️

Happy Fun Friday!

I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for 4 months now. The last series standing lol.
This series has lasted longer than the many others I’ve had and I plan on continuing it. It’s been my favorite from the start!

This week we’ll be exploring an app again. The app: Font Candy

This is the free version so of course it has it’s limitations but the full version is $3.

When you open the app it will take you to your camera roll. We won’t be using any of my pictures of sweet Izabelle lol. Instead we’ll be using Dakota’s.

You have the option to crop your image into different sizes such as Instagram, Twitter post, iPhone Wallpaper and a few others. I’ll be keeping it original.

Font Candy has lovely fonts to choose from. You’ll notice some favorites from Canva and other apps but you’ll find others that aren’t in Canva also. The paid version will have more.

I am using the Masana Script font to add “Essential Living With Dakota

I also wanted to add some artwork. Choose from different packages such as Holiday Magic, Decorative, and Family Packages like Mom, and Together We Make A Family which are the two I’ll be using.

Final product:

If you want, there are also different templates to choose from also.

Here are a few below:

When you are finished you can choose any social site to share it to or create phone cases, t-shirts etc which I didn’t look into. It’s probably too pricey. Let me know if you check it out. The image was automatically saved in my library.

Let me know if you give this app a try and if you like it.💚
