Behind The Name: SheLivesLove💖

Choosing a blog name can easily be one of the best parts of starting your blog, but it can just as easily be the most frustrating process. Whether you are starting your blog for the first time, or rebranding, picking the best name is important. When I started GoldenPinkJournal, I didn’t know nearly as much as I do now and I also didn’t take the time to think it through to make sure that I was making the best decision for my blog. I’ve noticed so many other bloggers going through the same thing so I thought I would share my process of picking a good name and a few tips to help you with yours.

The first thing I did to start the process was deciding what my blog was all about. Will it be a lifestyle, beauty & fashion blog, or other? What topics will I blog about? Who will be your potential audience? What general message and feeling do I want readers to leave with? Can you see yourself still using the name years from now?
These are questions you can ask yourself as well. I wanted my blog to focus on lifestyle and inspiration, spreading positivity, and have readers leave feeling a love of life despite hardships, learn or be inspired to do something. My audience will mostly be women.

I then wrote down topics and words that relate to my blog, I also included some of my favorite words. A shortened list of words I wrote down:

  • Lifestyle
  • Life/Live
  • Love/Lovely
  • Inspiration/Inspire
  • Creativity
  • Discussions
  • Poetry
  • Flowers/Rose
  • Reverie
  • Her/She/Girl
  • Thoughts
  • Epiphany
  • Euphoria
  • Eloquence
  • Luminary

Still pretty lengthy right?

After that list, I researched other blogs to see how their names were. I considered my actual name as I know that is a way some people brand themselves and really get themselves out there. During my research, I found many bloggers who do in fact use their name but also many that do not. Using your own name can be great depending on how long it is if it’s easy to remember, if it has a nice ring to it, and what your blog will be about. But if your name is something like Philanzio Amauiori (totally made this name up) or Ann Smith (this name is too common) you might want to consider something else. Readers won’t be able to remember your name easily, or it will already be taken. If someone heard it on the radio or on television would they know how to spell it? If you would have a problem with an employer or family member finding your blog you also should consider a different name.

I chose not to go with my name because I liked other names better and I didn’t want people confused on my middle name, Lecole [Lee-cole]. Some people don’t know how to pronounce it or would think it was my last name. I can just make sure that people associate my blog with it instead of using it as my domain. If I used my last name it would sound like any other common name but you can also think of alternatives. For example, Aimee [Ah-Mee] Song.  At first glance of Aimee, most people would think it is just another way of spelling “Amy.” Song is actually her last name, and her blog is named Song of Style. You could also do something like “LovelyLecole” “Phil Amour” “AnnAmazingLife” but I decided not to include my name. I wanted something sweet and easy to remember.

Popular blogger names I found and like are WishWishWish, GalMeetsGlam, TheSkinnyConfidential, The Everygirl, and pink Peonies.

By this time I was ready to start writing down a list of potential names for my blog. A few of the choices I came up with were LovelyReverie, LiveToInspire, ReverieInspired, and SheLivesLove.

One thing you should always do when choosing a name is checking to make sure the domain name and social media handles are available. This will help you eliminate some of the potential names in your list, you can also eliminate longer names and those that are your least favorite of course.

I noticed that on my social media accounts I always use the phrase “She is to love and be loved.” This is something I’ve always told myself since I was younger. I always had this feeling that part of my purpose in life is to spread a lot of love and inspiration to others, and in return be loved by a lot of people. This was perfect for the potential name on my list, sheliveslove! A great website that acts as a name generator and domain checker is bustaname.com. Try to list about 6 words to start seeing suggestions. Here I’ve included a screenshot example I’ve done:

Screenshot (43).png

You may have to add several words before you get a good list of ideas unless you include your name. You can also click on the blue arrows to get more word suggestions.

As for sheliveslove, I wanted to wait a while to see if my mind would change or any other names would come to me. I also checked to make sure the domain name and social media handles were available and I was good to go, other than a blank Instagram account which I didn’t see as too much of a problem since no one was actually using it. I just added an underscore to mine. If you have to do that with all or even most social media handles I would suggest going for another.

After weeks of deliberation, I decided this was the right name for me and thus sheliveslove.com was born!💖

Whatever you do, just don’t choose a name that can easily come off as something else like the names listed on this website for example:

30 Unintentionally Inappropriate Domain Names

One of them is “Penisland” (Pen Island) but some people could easily think that says… Well, what do you think? Lol.

There you have it. This is how I chose my new blog name, one that works so much better for me. How did you come up with your name? Can you add any tips? Comment below.✨

Fun Friday #18: 20 Names I Love But Won’t Be Using!💖💙

Happy Fun Friday!

Yesterday I took a look at my very first Fun Friday post, which was name’s I love but wouldn’t use. I shared that list back in March and I’ve added so many names since then! I’m obsessed honestly, I have about 70 written down.

For today’s post I decided to do an updated version sharing 10 girl names and 10 boy names that I love but probably wouldn’t use as my future child’s name. The name “Mireya” was in my last list but I’ve actually grown to really like it, mainly for a middle name but I’d definitely consider using it now. Many of the names on my list sound similar or have an A beginning/end because those are the type of names I prefer. They are still very different. I’ve also added a few of their meanings:)

Here is my updated list:
GIRLS💖

Analise– Honestly, I adore this name but the main reason I wouldn’t use it is because the first 4 letters spell… Anal. Now, I don’t know if my mind is just in the gutter but I don’t want the first few letters of my child’s name to spell Anal. I think she would hate it, and I feel like some people would point it out and make fun of it. If I ever use this name I would spell it “Aunalise” Auna for short. MEANING: Grace or devoted to God.*I also like Aunalia.

Alara– I really like the sound of this name but couldn’t see myself using it. MEANING: One who brings brightness and happiness to the soul, to the heart.

Indya– This is one of the names I thought I would someday name my daughter. Spelled India or Indya but now I see it as too common. I’m also not really interested in country/continent names anymore like India and Asia.

Yara– I got this name from the beautiful actress and model Yara Shahidi. I just couldn’t see this as my daughters name. MEANING: On Nameberry, the meaning is “small butterfly”
YaraS.jpg

Melody/Harmony– I’m using these 2 as 1 because they are both musical names, beautiful musical names I must add. I wouldn’t completely knock them, If I had twin girls I would probably consider these names. Maybe they would be blessed with great singing voices? That would be lovely. But with me being picky again, I have to point out “Harm” being the first 4 letters of Harmony lol.

Lilia/Lylia– Like Lily, this sounds so pretty but even better in my opinion. Again, this is just a name I couldn’t see my own daughter having.

Amberlee/Amberly– I started to like this name when I was in middle school or early high school days. It has a really pretty sound but the “Amber” is too common for me. MEANING: A jewel-quality fossilized resin; as a color the name refers to a warm honey shade.

Zuri– I first heard this name on Disney Channel on the show Jesse as Skai Jackson’s character and thought it was so beautiful! I only wouldn’t use this name because I’m not a fan of “Z” names for my own children. Guess what the meaning is??? MEANING: Beautiful

Hazel Won’t be using this name because it’s what I named one of my guinea pigs lol. Also because it’s a color. It’s also a type of tree and nut.

Aliza– I really love this name and the only reason I wouldn’t choose it is because I already know someone who named her daughter that. MEANING: Joy, joyful

BOYS💙

For the boy names most of these I wouldn’t choose only because there are other names I like better, or I couldn’t see myself using them.

Luca- I like how nice and short this name is, I just wouldn’t choose it for my son. MEANING: Bringer of light, Man from Lucania

Jeremiah– I like the sounding of Jeremiah, it’s just not for me.

Messiah– I love how powerful this name sounds. Probably because it’s pretty biblical. This name might be too much pressure though. MEANING: Annointed one

Eric– Another nice sounding short name. But this name is too common and also my ex’s name so that would be weird. MEANING: Eternal ruler

Tristan– I’m actually still on the fence about this name. Maybe I would use it, Maybe not. Who knows. I just know that I like it. As for the meaning, I saw several different meanings such as, a knight, tumult; outcry, bold, the loud one, lol… So I’m really not sure.

Antonio– This name probably isn’t as popular as it once was but it’s still kind of popular to me so I wouldn’t use it. Otherwise I really like it and would definitely consider it. MEANING: Worthy of praise; of value

Hendrix– I wouldn’t use this name for my son, it’s mainly a surname but I think it sounds really cool.

Malachi/Malakai– I’m not really a fan of M names for boys which is why I wouldn’t choose this name. It also sounds more like a pet name for a dog in my opinion. MEANING: My messenger/my angel

Kavan/Cavan– I just recently came across this name. I would probably use it for a middle name actually. MEANING: Handsome

Jahlil– Ever since I came across this name I’ve liked it. I only wouldn’t use it because I like other names better. But this could still very much be a possibility. I’m including it anyway:) MEANING: Great, Revered, Grand, Noble, Servant of the Majestic

That’s it! 20 names!
Do you like any of the names on my list? What is 1 girl and 1 boy name that would be on your list? Comment below.✨

Are You Living, Or Simply Existing?

This is a question I’ve come across a few times in my life but never really stopped to actually think about it. Sometimes I question whether or not I’m on the right track or living up to my full potential. Sometimes I wonder why exactly I am here, why do I exist? But I never asked myself why I live. That’s probably because I haven’t really been living. Sure, I’m alive in the fact that i’m breathing and typing this but beyond that? I’ve also noticed that I am not the only one, I even see other bloggers having a difficult time lately. We’re all going through some serious life changes and discoveries (of both the world and ourselves).

Cherylene, who blogs at livingvsexisting has written a special guest post that couldn’t have come at a better time! I think we all will benefit from this post in some way so please take the time to read.

Living Versus Existing; Cherylene Nicholas

I believe there are three classifications of people in this world, the ‘living’, the ‘existing’ and the dead.

The ‘living’ take the life they have and make the most use of it. When you are living you are constantly moving, improving and learning. Persons who are ‘existing’ on the other hand are doing just enough to sustain life.

We do this when we go through our daily routines day after day with no real drive or sense of purpose other than to get through the day and hopefully not die while we do so. Our lives can and should be so much more than that.

Some may say to live you must exist and thus to exist is to live. However, although in theory this is true the reality is much different. Many of us go to work, manage families, balance resources, and do our best to take care of everyone else in our lives while inside we are struggling with our own internal issues.

How many of us eat but aren’t full, sleep but don’t rest, hear but don’t listen because we’re so busy trying to survive or play the balancing act with the issues in our lives? Marital issues, relationship drama, poor health, financial burdens, work stress, and so much more can have us distracted, depressed, stressed and unhappy. The challenges of being alive can get to us but how we choose to handle them is what separates the living from the existing.

Here are my Top 15 Signs you are ‘Living’ and not just ‘Existing’.

1. You make time to pamper and treat yourself rather than list excuses why you should not.

2. You make time to do fun things with your family and friends. It is not just about work.

3. You do not allow the challenges that life brings your way to keep you down or depressed.

4. You are always seeking knowledge and wisdom in various areas of your life.

5. You are willing to try new things and explore new places.

6. You do not allow the word “No” to discourage you instead you use it as a motivator to find a solution.

7. You do not allow negativity to steal your joy.

8. You recognize that life is too short to waste it on negative thinking or negative people.

9. You strive to be positive in your thinking and your interactions.

10. You choose to enjoy the good moments; learn from the bad and move forward.

11. You recognize that you don’t exist in this world by yourself and thus you try to help others less fortunate than yourself whenever you can.

12. You recognize and accept that no one is perfect.

13. Your focus is on striving to be your best self and living your best life.

14. You do not leave your happiness to chance.

15. You recognize that true happiness comes from within and thus do not depend on others to make you happy.

Living versus existing is therefore a state of mind that you choose to manifest in your everyday life. Someone who is ‘living’ makes the decision to do more with the life they have and often push themselves to do more because they expect more. A person who is ‘existing’ settles in their thinking and accepts the shortcomings in their life because sometimes they have just lost the will to fight.

My life is not perfect but that does not deter me from wanting to make it better. No matter how tough or challenging things might be right now, believe me when I tell you things can get better. Assess, Review and Take Action.

Ask yourself, am I existing or living?

What is more important however is what are you going to do about it?

The main difference between life and death is that the living gets another chance to do things right while the dead have been taken out of the fight.

After reading this post and paying special attention to Chery’s 15 signs, I realize I definitely have some things I need to work on in order to actually live my life and not simply exist. Some of the statements on the list I have been neglecting and they are definitely a huge reason for some of my worse days. I can proudly say that I have already been working on this. What are your thoughts? Did this list get you thinking about your own life? Do you feel like you have truly been living? Comment your thoughts.✨

Natural Hairstyles + Things You Should/Shouldn’t Do✨

Hey everyone!

For part 4 of my natural hair series leading up to my 1 year natural anniversary (which is actually today, story will be on Saturday) I’m going to be sharing some popular hairstyles I love that define your curls, and also things you should/shouldn’t do with your natural hair. None of these pictures are my own, some are YouTubers I follow and the others I found through google on Pinterest.

I hope you all have been learning and enjoying this series so far💛

(all style results will vary on each head, results will depend on length, size of section you use, products, time left in, and texture.)

Let’s get started:

Bantu knot out: A Bantu knot out is when you take down your Bantu knots (you learned about this in part1)

IAMTRAEH

Xonecole.com

Finger Coils: Finger coils are basically when you coil the hair with your finger, twirling the hair around; gently of course to create a coil/spiral curl

Brandilou88

Braid-Out: The style created after taking out braids that have dried first

Chronicurls

NaturallyChea

Flat Twists/Twist out: (these are all flat, but you can do regular twists also)

Frohawk/mohawk: So many ways to  style!

Afro: An afro is basically the natural hair undefined, either picked out with a pick or with blow dryer (blow out)

Erykah Badu (left) & Solange (Right) above image

Protective Styles: (box braids, Senegalese twists or other twists, weaves, wigs, braided hair etc) and locs. Any style that protects the hair, especially the ends.

Things You Should/Shouldn’t Do To Your Natural Hair

  • You should condition/deep condition at least once a week
  • You should avoid shampoo and other products with harsh ingredients such as alcohol, sulfates, and parabens.
  • You should make sure to keep hair moisturized
  • You should trim when necessary. You don’t have to trim on a schedule, in fact I would avoid that. Just do it when you really need to.
  • You should use natural products and essential oils. Oils such as JBCO, coconut oil, argan oil, olive oil, tea tree, and peppermint.
  • You should use protective styles. Protective styles are not limited to weaves and wigs. You can put your hair in twists or braids and keep them in for a week and that would still be considered protecting. Less manipulation is key, protective styles do not make your hair grow, they help retain length because you aren’t manipulating the hair which can cause breaking. You still need to moisturize and oil your scalp.
  • You should stay away from using heat on the hair. That means flat ironing, curling irons, and blow dryers also.
  • You should dry your hair with a t-shirt or microfiber towel. Not a regular towel you use to dry off, those can cause frizz and even break some hair off.
  • You should know that natural hair is trial and error and can be time consuming especially on wash days, and detangling. Take your time because rushing will definitely cause some unnecessary breakage.
  • You should know that your hair won’t always be the same or turn out the same so don’t get frustrated. Even the weather can change how your hair is going to react.
  • You should take pictures often if you want to document your journey and see the growth and health. It will be hard to notice otherwise because of shrinkage.
  • You should read ingredients on products you buy. Usually and especially for moisturizers the first ingredient should be water
  • You shouldn’t wash hair so much, this can be very stripping of natural oils. I wash mine once a week, and some weeks I only co-wash (wash with conditioner only)
  • You shouldn’t detangle or style dry hair.
  • You shouldn’t hold onto damaged ends just for length. Clip them off! Holding on will only make split ends continue to split up the hair shaft and break.
  • You shouldn’t use protective styling only as a way to hide your hair. If you always cover it how will you learn to love and care for it?
  • You shouldn’t compare yourself and your hair to others. We are all unique and beautiful. If you was meant to look almost exactly like someone else it’s highly possible you’d be a twin.
  • You shouldn’t sleep without protecting the hair with a bonnet or silk/satin scarf. Cotton can be very drying and cause breakage.
  • You shouldn’t braid or style too tight, especially pony tails/high puffs. This will also cause breakage and losing your edges!
  • You shouldn’t bleach your hair. There are other ways to color your hair without bleaching
  • You definitely shouldn’t relax/perm your hair or use a texturizer. Avoid chemicals! Avoid trying to have looser curls if that’s not what your natural texture already is.
  • You shouldn’t be so focused on length. Health first and always!
  • You shouldn’t get discouraged, or be impatient. It takes proper care, time, and patience for things to grow.
  • You shouldn’t feel like your hair is ugly, or not good enough. It is beautiful and so are you!

That’s all for part 4; I’ll be back tomorrow for Fun Friday with #5 🙂
What was your favorite hairstyle? Have you tried any of the hairstyles already? Can you add anything to the list? Comment below.💛

Better Sleep Better Me; Better Snooze Better You!😴✨

Do you ever struggle with sleeping at night? Are you what they call a night owl?
I knew I wasn’t the only one! I get it. Sometimes you’re just not tired, sometimes there’s way too much on your mind to be able to rest. Sometimes you’re busy trying to finish things before the next day. Sometimes you just can’t get comfortable. I have the same issues. Well, until I started researching and learning more about the subject, and using a few tips.

Do you know what happens during a nap or full night of sleep? Do you know why it’s important to be getting enough hours of sleep each night?

May is better sleep month to encourage people to establish better sleeping patterns and learn more about what really goes on while we sleep.
Here’s a graphic of the sleep cycle for more information, along with some of my tips for a better nights sleep.

leesa_sleep_cycle_x2_v03Learn anything interesting? You’re probably eager to know those tips I have so without further ado, let’s get ready for bed;)

1 sheep, 2 sheep, 3 sheep, 4-

Are you falling asleep yet? Does counting sheep help you fall asleep? Me either! My tips below will work a lot better. Trust me.

12 Ways I Ensure I Get A Good Nights Sleep:

1. Try to be busy throughout the day. I find that I get my best nights of sleep when I’ve had a work day or I’ve been out of the house for a few hours. Workout, go out with friends/family, whatever gets you active for a while.

2. Limit your naps. I know naps can be good, but too much of anything is bad right?Sometimes you think you’ll only take a little cat nap, next thing you know you’re waking up hours later thinking it’s the next morning and you’re left wide awake for the rest of the night.

3. Try not to sleep in. Simple enough. There were times I would sleep until 2 PM. I would end up falling asleep around 2 AM.s

4. Have a full meal. I try to have a filling meal a couple of hours before bed or have a snack right before. Who can fall asleep on an empty, growling stomach?

5. Limit light and electronic devices. This should be a no-brainer. I can’t fall asleep if the TV is on, I’m blogging, or liking pictures on Instagram.

6. Read a book right before bed. I find that if I read during bedtime my eyes will get tired quickly and I’ll be able to fall asleep.

7. Try to go to sleep and wake up around the same time. Develop a sleeping pattern. Once I started doing this it was like my body knew exactly what time it was, what time to go to bed and when it’s time to wake up.

8. A hot shower or bubble bath will definitely relax you for a good nights sleep.

9. Temperature. I don’t know about you but I can’t sleep if it’s too hot or too cold. The temperature has to be just right. I like the temperature to be steady also, or have plenty cover ready. Sometimes I have the air on and after a few hours I find myself waking up trying to wrap up in more cover.

10. Wherever I’m sleeping has to be neat and clean. Can you agree? If you can’t work properly in a mess without discomfort, i’m sure you can’t sleep there either.

11. Don’t fight it! I can’t count how many times I’ve tried to fight my sleep just because I was trying to get something done. You’re just going to be missing out on time that you could be resting, you might even win that battle and wake yourself back up! It’s happened to me before.

12. Have a great mattress of course! If you want, you can check out Sweet Home’s review on the Leesa, an online luxury mattress that you can try for 100 nights risk free!

Not getting enough sleep not only affects your mind and body, but also your appearance. They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing! Sleep better this May, and every other month from now on:)

I hope you’ve found this post and my tips useful. What tips can you add? Leave a comment below.

10 Reasons Why I Might Follow Your Blog✨

Hey everyone! Today has been very busy for me but I’m still working on my to do list and I really wanted… to do this lol. So, here are my top 10 reasons why I may follow you…

1. You have a nice name/picture. Chances are, if your picture is blank or your name is something I can’t read or understand I won’t follow you.

2. You post regularly. If I’m going to follow a blog, I’m looking for consistency in the dates posted.

3. Your blog looks nice and organized. Not plain, or hard to navigate through. I can clearly see the follow button on mobile device. Variety of topics. Great design etc

4. You engage with your readers and others you follow. This is a big one so make sure you’re not only engaging with me, but other bloggers you follow and who comment to you also.

5. Your posts are interesting. Not all based on facts, there’s some honesty and personality that can be seen through your writing.

6. You are kind to your followers and blog community. Again this is another big one. Just the other night I saw a terrible post someone made because they were angry that no one was liking or commenting on their posts (that if I’m going to be honest weren’t all that great to begin with) This persons words were so foul that I had to unfollow.

7. You have Social media platforms I can also follow you on.

8. I see your name often in awards/tags. If I am constantly seeing that you are nominated for awards or to do tags, there’s a high chance of me checking out and following your blog.

9. You use pictures. Now pictures aren’t a must, but if you never use them I probably won’t follow you. Sorry😕

10. Your blog is about positivity and inspiration☺️ there’s a high chance of me following you if your blog spreads positivity in any way✨

I hope you all enjoyed this list. What are some reasons you might follow someone’s blog? Leave a comment below.

Inspiration of the day✨

Hey all who is reading! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful day and have been productive. I have a lot of comments and blogs to read and catch up on, which I’ll get to tomorrow and a few tonight. I haven’t been on much today because I was reading, watching movies on Netflix, and many other things other than blogging lol. I’ve had a chill day I guess you can say. Just some time to unwind and relax my mind:)

But on with the inspiration. Our inspiration today focuses on mistakes…

I believe in this first quote not because we won’t live long enough to make them all ourselves, but because it’s true that we’re not going to experience every situation in life, even the ones we do experience, it’s still good to learn from others. If you’re a person that’s very observant, you know that paying attention to others actions and the consequences they face allows you to see it first hand and not make the same mistake.

If Elizabeth and Myra spot a beautiful field of flowers, and Elizabeth goes into the field getting stung by several bees, Myra should know better than to go into the field also.

🌼🌸 🐝

If a friend of yours gets into a bad car accident while street racing, or busted by the police, you should know not to speed or race…Or at least not race in that same area right?🙃

Those are just a couple of examples. I’m sure you can think of many you’ve already learned from in your own life. If you want, leave a comment about a time you learned from someone else’s mistake.

Here are a few other quotes I like:

We still love ourselves even after making so many mistakes. So how can we hate others for their single mistake?
